Term 3 2020

Principals Message

Dear families and friends

Time is flying by. It is hard to believe it is already past the halfway point of Term 3.

We have all been working very hard to improve attendance at John Pujajangka-Piyirn Catholic School. Our goal is to have every student in community to come to school every single day Monday - Friday. Listen out for Mr Wilder on school pick up from 7.20am to 7.35am. All students who have had 100% attendance for the week will receive a certificate and prize. Photos of our 100% attenders can be seen proudly displayed at the store. Well done to all of the students, families and carers.

A reminder of school hours:
Breakfast Club: 7.20am -07.40am
PP – 6: 7.40am - 1.45pm
Kindergarten: 7.40am - 11.30am

School Visits
This term we have had visits to the school by the Trachoma Team, Hearing Health and the Allied Health team to support student health and wellbeing.

Covid 19
We are encouraging students to maintain good hygiene practices whilst they are at school. Remember if children are sick, they must remain at home until they feel better.

OP Shop
The OP shop will be open every Thursday, 2-3pm. The Mulan Store is open for cash out Thursday afternoon. No laybys!!

Take care and God Bless

Primary A
Grrrrrr! Dinosaurs have been wandering around Primary A this term. In Science, we have been learning about the life of Dinosaurs, where they live, what they eat and what their bones look like.

In Literacy we have been reading about Harry, his bucketful of Dinosaurs and all of his adventures, to school, to the museum, on the train and to a birthday party. We have also spoken about our favorite dinosaurs; can you guess which dinosaur is Rex’s favorite? Sebastian even found a dinosaur bone buried deep in our sandpit! We were all very excited.

In Maths we have been learning about shorter and longer, measuring pencils, crayons and our feet inside the classroom. Outside the classroom we collected sticks, leaves and rocks and placed them in order from shortest to longest. We have been learning how to skip during Huff n Puff by playing games like Island Jump and the helicopter game as well as skipping by ourselves and in a group. In Religion we have been learning about confirmation and the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Every Tuesday, (Chooseday), we get to pick our favourite activity. Dress ups, making play dough, painting and puzzles.
Our star attenders at school have been Shenzee, Keron, Sebastian, Zarica and Iana! Congratulations!

Senior Class
Friday Fun Day, narratives, long jump, discs, triple jump, place value, where do we begin in Senior Class this term!

In English we have been listening to stories from Miss Kim, which include Enemy Pie, Button Boy, Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge, Where the Wild Things Are and Possum Magic. We love going to our new reading corner, relaxing and listening to these wonderful stories!

In Maths, we have been working so hard to get our place value numbers right! We started at tens, then graduated to hundreds and yes, now we can even do thousands!!

Ready, set go…We take a huge run up to the sandpit and stretch our whole body and legs as far as we can to land in the sandpit. Junx is hard to beat! Shantalia, Diona and Kieren are enjoying pushing themselves to beat their own personal best distance.

Solids, liquids and science experiments are fun this term. We have noticed if we put anything out long enough in Mulan it melts in the heat of the Great Sandy Desert!!

The highlight, so far this term has definitely receiving lots of ticks to bank for the end of term prize and the Friday Fun Day with the Primary A class. We made masks and decorated them, played with bubbles and decorated biscuits. The novelty races were so much fun, we especially loved the relay dressing up race. It was great to watch Mr Wilder and Miss Kim race against each other in the Sack race, Miss Juliet and Miss Sue said the result was a dead heat!

The term is going so quickly and we only have one term left to go in 2020!

 Friday Funday!

On the 7th August, the children at JPP Mulan celebrated ‘Friday Fun Day’. The children participated in making and decorating their own masks 🎭, blew and chased bubbles around the oval and decorated and iced their own biscuits! The highlight of the day was the mini sports carnival with novelty races including, egg and spoon, sack and dress up races. The children loved this special 2020 ‘Memory Day’ at Mulan. The best part was the show bag they took home with them at the end of the day, that had all the lovely things they had made to share with their families!

Congratulations to all the children for your great participation and good sportsmanship on the day!
